European Research and Innovation Days

24-26 September, Brussels

European Research and Innovation Days is the annual flagship policy event of the European Commission, bringing together stakeholders to debate and shape the future research and innovation landscape.

The event, which is open to everyone and is free of charge, will feature three main elements: a high-level policy conference, the "Innovative Europe Hub" and the "Science is Wonderful" exhibition of EU-funded projects.

Speakers will include ministers, commissioners, members of European Parliament, researchers, as well as surprise guests each day.

Aim of the event

A key challenge for Europe is delivering the next great transition of our economy, society and planet to secure a sustainable future that ensures the wellbeing of citizens.

The event will be central to:

  • find research and innovation solutions for this great transition by working across polices, setting the direction, spurring innovation and triggering investment. It will be the moment for all stakeholders to meet and co-create the strategic priorities for the European Commission's investment in research and innovation;
  • mobilise EU citizens and increase awareness of how important research and innovation are in addressing the challenges that face society. At the free exhibition it will be possible to showcase and celebrate the very best EU research and innovation has to offer;
  • set the strategic planning process for the first work programmes of Horizon Europe: the proposed €100 billion next EU programme for research and innovation (2021-2027) called Horizon Europe is still taking its shape. Together with the recently launched EC consultation on it with deadline: 08 September 2019, the European Research and Innovation Days will provide a relevant occasion for collecting inputs for the Horizon Europe call for proposals of the first 4 years (2021-2024). This is part of the virtuous co-design process promoted by the European Commission in this frame.
