In The Netherlands, TechnipFMC is active in the design engineering and construction and worldwide implementation of process plants and units in the oil & gas, refining, petrochemical and offshore industry. TechnipFMC Benelux B.V. has proprietary technologies and know-how in the field of ethylene and hydrogen/synthesis production plants. It also offers operational support services and proprietary operational software to operators of ethylene and hydrogen plants. Since January 2017 TechnipFMC Benelux’s as put in place a dedicated team, known as The New Technologies Department, to embrace new technological developments in the field of sustainable energy. Such as, advance biofuels, CO2 capture, waste-to- energy, energy storage, green hydrogen, bioethanol, bio-jet-fuels, among other technologies, this in strict in collaboration/ partnership with start-ups to well established and renamed companies. An example is the collaborative agreement between TechnipFMC Benelux’s and BTG BioLiquids B.V. (BTL), which enables the commercialization of Fast Pyrolysis Bio-Oil (FPBO) Plants based on BGT-BTL proprietary FPBO Technology. FPBO technology converts biomass waste into bio-oil; a second-generation intermediary biofuel. FPBO as a renewable, second-generation bio-liquid can be used as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels to produce renewable energy carriers and chemicals. It is obtained through the application of FPBO technology, which transforms non-food lignocellulosic biomass into liquid. Many kinds of biomass residues not competing with the food chain − such as wood residues, straw, sugar cane bagasse and sun flower husks − can be used. TechnipFMC Benelux is working to develop the Co-FCC route for FPBO conversion to bio-fuels. TechnipFMC Benelux is planning to carry-out FPBO co-processing trial in FCC unit.
