Despite political initiatives, energy demands and greenhouse gas emissions are growing at an alarming speed especially for road and air transport. Recent volatility in oil prices and political instabilities in oil-exporting countries have increasingly brought this issue to public and political attention.

This project report catalogues new technology options for Road and Air Transport. Its objective is to contribute to improved transparency and governance of this highly complex and sometimes controversial field. Technical and economic aspects of each options are described, and their potential to substitute fossil fuels in transport and reduce greenhouse gas emmissions is assessed.
