TrustXBio Innovation Challenge now mentoring nine innovative project developers

Last month the TrustxBio Innovation Challenge received nine applications from a diverse group of participants, including researchers, CEOs, and project managers from businesses, universities, and research institutions.  The primary goal of the Challenge is to expedite the development of fresh innovations that incorporate digital technological solutions in a way that enhances transparency and fosters public trust in bioenergy feedstocks.

The nine innovative project ideas that were selected span across bioenergy, waste management, and sustainability, with solutions ranging from biogas production to biomass technologies, carbon capture, and decentralized energy. The participants are now receiving mentorship and guidance to further develop their projects by a team of experts, in a series of workshop that kicked off at the end of October.

The first BBIC mentoring workshop featured a lecture by Nikola Kerekov, an experienced science communicator and host of Ratio Weekly, one of Bulgaria’s most popular science podcasts. He is molecular biologist with a PhD in immunology with long research experience in human autoimmunity, DNA vaccines, and the development of animal models of human diseases. He is also part of Ratio team, a science communication platform that organises various initiatives to present science, engineering and technology in accessible, human language. During the workshop Nikola shared key insights with participants on how they can translate complex research into messages that are easily understandable and applicable to everyday life.

The second expert mentoring the BBIC participants in the first workshop was Mariya Hristova, founder of AgriVentures, a company that helps mission-driven Agri-foodtech founders make an impact by building a link between entrepreneurship skills and agriculture and food innovative ideas. She acts as Ambassador for Foodtech 500 and the European Climate Pact and serves as Policy Council Expert for EIT Food. During the workshop Mariya shared with the participants first-hand experience and useful tips for a successful presentation of business concepts and finding the right financing sources.

The next BBIC mentoring workshop will continue on through 2024 and beginning of 2025, and the final winners of the challenge will be announced next March at the 12th Stakeholder Plenary Meeting.
