Role and activities

The role of ETIP Bioenergy

The European Technology and Innovation Platform Bioenergy is an industry-led stakeholder platform that brings together relevant actors from academia, industry,  and civil society, engaged in the development of sustainable bioenergy and competitive biofuel technologies. One major task of ETIP Bioenergy is to address the technical and economic barriers to the further development and accelerated commercial deployment of bioenergy technologies for the widespread sustainable exploitation of biomass resources.

ETIP Bioenergy represents a privileged channel of communication with the European Commission on topics related to advanced biofuels and intermediate energy carriers. The ETIP Bioenergy  is recognized by the European Commission as the main interlocutor for DG-RTD for the bioenergy sector, in particular to implement the Strategic Energy Technology Plan in the field of biofuels and bioenergy. As an industry-led stakeholder forum, ETIP Bioenergy has the role to represent the unbiased, united, and consolidated view of the biofuels and bioenergy industry in Europe.

ETIP Bioenergy contributes to create an “enabling environment” for the consolidation and further development of bioenergy and advanced biofuels technologies supporting the long-term decarbonisation of the energy system consequently substituting fossil fuels.

Consolidating the expertise and knowledge of leading European industries and researchers, ETIP Bioenergy is an important European hub for the dissemination of technology-neutral fact-based information on advanced bioenergy and innovative industrial models.

ETIP Bioenergy gathers more than 100 stakeholders at its regular Plenary Meetings. Regular newsletters are sent to more than 3,000 contacts. At the same time the website is regularly updated and provides knowledge on bioenergy topics. ETIP Bioenergy is managed by a Steering Committee while specific topics are discussed in Working Groups. Activities are supported by the Horizon Europe project ETIP B 2022-2025 (Grant Agreement No. 101075503.)

ETIP Bioenergy Organisation

The ETIP Bioenergy is composed of a Steering Committee, Working Groups, an Advisory Board, a Coordination Group, a Stakeholder Plenary Meeting, and a Secretariat. It is currently supported by a Horizon Europe funded project ETIP Bioenergy-B2022-2025. The following figure reflects the organizational structure of the ETIP Bioenergy.

Secretariat of the European Technology and Innovation Platform Bioenergy

The ETIP Bioenergy Secretariat is administered by BEST – Bioenergy and Sustainable Technologies, Austria. The ETIP Bioenergy Secretariat is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the ETIP Bioenergy.

Since June 2022, the project called ETIP-B2022-2025 – European Technology and Innovation Platform Bioenergy – Support of Renewable Fuels and Advanced Bioenergy Stakeholders 2022-2025, funded over three years by the Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Technology and Innovation of the European Commission under Grant Agreement No. 101075503, is actively supporting the ETIP Bioenergy aiming to facilitate co-operations among bioenergy stakeholders in Europe. Detailed information about the scope and the activities of ETIP-B2022-2025 can be found on etipbioenergy.eu
