Department of Environmental Engineering and Occupational Safety and Health, University of Novi Sad

The Department of Environmental Engineering and Occupational Safety and Health  is one of the most recent department at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, established in 1999. The Department has developed as a result of demands of industry, companies and institutions facing environmental and safety  problems, which need engineers with interdisciplinary knowledge in the said fields. Since 1 April 2009 the Department of Environmental Engineering and Occupational Safety and Health also include the Centre for biosystems engineering, which is a relatively new name for engineering in agricultural production and processing.

In addition to its educational activities, the Department of Environmental Engineering and Occupational Safety and Health,  focuses also on scientific and research activities. Since its establishment to date, the Department has made significant contribution to applied research and cooperation with industry. As the result of the scientific and research activities of the associates at the Department during the last 10 years, 21 papers were published in prestigious international scientific journals, and 551 papers were presented at conferences of national and international importance. On 17 December 2008 the Laboratory for monitoring of landfills, waste waters and air was founded. In December of the same year, the Department for environmental engineering published the first issue of journal “Kompakt”, the first journal in the region dealing with waste management, contemporary approach to problem solving in this field, positive worldwide experiences and conditions of waste management in Serbia. The Department has developed a specific activity in organising scientific and professional seminars and conferences, as a manner in which our scientific and research activities are spread directly.
